Technology at the Library

Effective January 2, 2013, the following computer policy changes will take place:

  • All computer reservations made over the phone must be made using a library card.

  • Customers can make a maximum of two reservations per day, a decrease from our current 3-reservation policy.

  • Library cardholders can use up to $2 worth of free printing per day, an increase from our current policy of $1/day for cardholders. Guest pass users can use only $.50 worth of free printing per day, a decrease from our current policy of $1/day for guest pass users.

Desktop ComputersAll of our buildings have free public computers available.  Some computers are reservable for 2-hour blocks, some are reservable for 1-hour blocks, while others can be used on a first-come, first served basis for 30 minutes at a time.  One- and two-hour computers may be reserved in person at any of our locations, by phoning one of our branches in advance, or by making a reservation online from your home computer.  (Click here to reserve a computer online.)

To make a reservation and sign on to our computers, you will just need your library card number.  Forgot your library card, or don't have one?  No problem!  You can request a Visitor Pass at any of our locations that will allow you to access our computers for that day.

Before using a library computer, please read our Internet Access Policy and Guide for Use of Library Workstations.

Computers

Our Dell computers have free Internet access and run Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher), Mavis Beacon Typing Tutor, and Internet Explorer.  Our systems all have available privacy screens, and we offer a larger keyboard and screen for the visually impaired.  Our Lee Road branch Children's Area computers feature games appropriate for our young visitors.

CD and DVD burners are available in the Lee Road Computer Gallery.  All of our computers feature USB ports which allow you to use Flash Drives to open and save your personal files.  Flash Drives are faster and hold much more data than a floppy disk, and are available for purchase at our Lee Road library.
