About CATS
The CATS are a group of librarians and library assistants in the Children’s Department of the Cleveland Heights University Heights Public Library, representing all four branches. An important part of working with children is encouraging and developing the enjoyment of reading. We do this by being ready to advise children (and their parents and caregivers) of all reading levels about what is available for them to read. Reader’s advisory is the service of informally asking what a reader enjoys reading about and why, and then give suggestions that the reader might enjoy. Reader’s Advisory for children is challenging and rewarding. Children often aren’t able to say exactly what it is they enjoy about a book, or a character or story, but hearing about it and finding the just right next book puts a look on a child’s face that the CATS really love to see. The library provides readers advisory service at all age levels, and you can find more information and good reading suggestions from librarians on some of the adult readers advisory blogs. The library also has a stellar teen blog, too!
