Question:

I’m trying to find newspaper coverage of a streetcar fire in Chicago in the 1940s. My cousin died on that streetcar and the story of how they identified her is most interesting. She was on her way to have her hands photographed for a commercial and was told to bring a head of cabbage to the shoot as her hands would be photographed holding it. She was holding the cabbage on her lap and the moisture from the cabbage kept a small part of her dress from burning, and they were able to identify her body from that piece of intact cloth. I know no other details and the people who I would ask, have died.

Answer:

We recommend you use the Chicago Public Library’s email reference. You can send them a message at: http://www.chipublib.org/aboutcpl/asklibform.php
