Every few months or so, there’s a new app craze. From Angry Birds to Draw Something, those of us into the latest techno trends hear about it and, usually,we’re into it. The latest app to sweep me into a frenzy is SongPop. Available via Facebook, for various Apple products, and for Android, SongPop is a free, name that tune type of game where you listen to clips of songs and guess either the song title or the artist. What’s great about this game is that, as their website states, all platforms are synched; so if you start a game on your Android phone, you can continue it on Facebook, and so on. Also, it’s not just naming that tune, you are challenging your friends (or strangers, depending on how you roll) while you challenge yourself. How to play: pick a friend to challenge, pick a list, then name that tune or artist from a multiple choice list; there are five songs per round. You win coins depending on whether or not you win your round; one point if you lose, three if you are victorious. There are also powerups that allow you to change your playlist choice (before beginning a round) or get rid of two choices (during a round). Every week, as you play, you are in a tournament with all of your opponents. At the end of the week, you earn more powerups, depending on how many opponents you beat. Every player begins with a few playlists (like 80′s Collection and Classic Rock), but as you earn more coins, you are able to purchase different playlists.
I love this game; it has to be the best app ever! At least it’s the best I’ve ever downloaded. It’s very fun, highly addictive, and gives you a chance to share your music knowledge while competing against friends. It’s not as simple as I may have made it sound; it’s very easy to not do well. Timing is everything. You earn more points by answering quickly. So even if you know every song listed, depending on how fast you answered, you could lose. That pressure makes for lots of wrong answers, as you race to answer and accidentally hit the wrong button! Overall, it’s a great game. I have purchased six playlists and I am always eager to get more (I can’t wait to get 80′s Hairbands!), as SongPop adds more pretty often. There are so many things to enjoy about this game, but for me it’s challenging myself and, at times, finding out I don’t know as much as I thought!
Key playlists: Musicals, Classical, Classic Rap, Classic R & B, Classic Rock, 60′s Collection, 70′s Collection, 80′s Collection, 90′s Alternative, Indie Rock, Disco

This game is so fun it’s dumb. I feel addicted sometimes as I start games with random opponents just to keep playing!! Classic Rap is awesome! I need MORE!
