About Gregory Fisher and The Undead Rat
In Brief
Greg Fisher’s special interest is horror. He also reads fantasy, science fiction, graphic novels, darker mysteries and has an interest in mythology. He is also our prolific blogger extraordinaire.
Greg can be found at the Lee Road or at Noble Neighborhood Library.
About Gregory Fisher
By day I’m a librarian assistant in the Heights Library system serving Cleveland Hts., and University Hts., Ohio. I’ve worked here since 1990.
I was a charter member of the Readers’ Advisory Team Services (RATS) in 1993 and I’m still a RAT. It was this group that gave me the alias of Undead Rat because of my love of horror fiction.
I have a Bachelors degree in history and religious studies. I don’t have a Masters Degree in Library Science and probably never will. Still, I have nearly 20 years of library experience so that counts for something.
My current passion is helping people find their next good horror novel. I’m also passionate about audio books, comics and graphic novels (both super-hero and the more mature non-super-hero titles), as well as Ohio and Cleveland area authors.
I’m a husband and father.
I’m married to Deena Fisher, a beautiful, intelligent, and creative woman who launched her own micro-press called Drollerie Press.
I have a grown stepson and two children. The oldest is a girl in kindergarten who is scarily smart, loves dinosaurs and tells a story about a pretty vampire girl who destroyed New York City. The boy is a year younger. He has both albinism and autism. He loves buses, trucks, and especially loves trains.
About the Undead Rat
The Undead Rat was born in the fevered imagination of a librarian associate who needed a secret identity that would allow him to run around on the internet doing the good deed of scaring people by hooking them up with really good horror books.
Why a rat?
When the Readers’ Advisory Team Services was formed in 1993, we soon realized that the initials spelled RATS. Thus a mascot was born — the rat.
When we sought to create a web presence, each of us chose a name that described them in some way and added rat to it. As I loved horror fiction, I picked The Undead Rat as my nickname. That is how the persona was born.
Even fellow librarians sometimes call me Undead Rat. And I answer to it. Almost from the beginning, the identity of The Undead Rat has fit like a comfortable glove.
“Call me Undead Rat. Call me Greg. I answer to both.”
What’s in the future for the Undead Rat? Fame? Fortune? A Hot Movie Deal? Conquering the World with Undead Minions? Hey, the sky’s the limit.
About the Website
Being a librarian type, I love creating tools — my websites — to help my fellow librarians help their patrons better.
This website, Thrillers, Horror, Comics and Audio Books: The Lair of the Undead Rat with Greg, is an online tool you can consult to find books you might enjoy reading. Here you’ll find book summaries, book lists, series lists and links to other websites where you can get additional help.
Thrillers, Horror, Comics and Audio Books is a library sponsored blog. I tend to write about thrillers, audio books and graphic novels here . . . although the occasional horror book does show up from time to time. Generally the material I write about here is available at one of the libraries in the CLEVNET system.
One of the easiest ways to communicate with me is by using the Contact Me page. I’ve fixed it up so it no longer sends e-mails to a dead e-mail address (my bad) and I’ll do my level best to respond in a timely fashion.
The Other Websites
While I do touch upon horror fiction from time to time on Thrillers, Horror, Comics and Audio Books, you’ll find a more comprehensive coverage of the horror genre on my personal website …With Intent to Commit Horror.
