30 Day Book Challenge: Day 1 — The Best Book You Read Last Year

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein

I read a few really, really good books last year— but this one astonished me. I gave away copies of it for World Book Night (which is sadly folding after three years) and have recommended it more than any other book I’ve ever read. I posted a raving review here.

  1. The best book I read last year was “The Sky is Everywhere” by Jandy Nelson. It’s a beautifully written realistic portrayal of teens dealing with tragedy, grief, and first love. Nelson really hits you with all of the feelings! I’m looking forward to her second novel, “I’ll Give You the Sun,” being published this month.

Coming in at a close second was Sheila Turnage’s, “Three Times Lucky,” a Newbery Honor winner of 2013. With a hilarious set of characters and the mysterious events plaguing the town of Tupelo Landing, it’s no wonder it was recognized!
