BE EXCITED for These Books Coming Out in 2014

Dangerous by Shannon Hale – March 4

I love Shannon Hale’s books for children, and her fiction for adults is hilarious, so I expect her first book for teens to be fantastic as well. She’s stepping a bit outside her comfort zone with Dangerous, which is sci-fi/romance. It’s due for release on March 4th, but you can already reserve your copy at the library! Also check out these ridiculous promotional author photos. I love Shannon.

The Here and Now by Ann Brashares – April 8

As someone who has read every single book by Ann Brashares, and has had to wait three years for this one (her last was Sisterhood Everlasting— the final book in the Sisterhood series, if you didn’t know it existed), I am WAY PUMPED. It sounds like it’s different from much of the stuff she’s written, but will probably be just as transcendent. Due for release on April 8th, but you can put it on hold in advance, too!

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart – May 13

E. Lockhart writes some of the best flawed teens you’ve ever come to know and love in literary form. And I’ve been waiting four years for her next batch of characters, since the end of her Ruby Oliver series. We Were Liars is due for release on May 13th. And guess what? This one is ALSO in the system so you can place a hold on it in advance. Isn’t our library awesome?

Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater – July 1

I’m pretty transparent about my love for Maggie Stiefvater’s books. So you could probably guess I’d be over the moon about this one, coming out on July 1st. It’s a companion to her Wolves of Mercy Falls series, and I thought she would NEVER write it, but it’s finally going to happen! I don’t want to spoil anything for those of you who haven’t read the original series, so read those first (1, 2, 3) and then check back to put this one on hold.

I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson – September 16

Jandy Nelson’s first book, The Sky Is Everywhere, is one of my favorite books of all time. I’ve been sitting here twiddling my thumbs for four years, waiting for her to come out with her next one. Is 2014 a good year, or what? This one is due for release on September 16th. It’s not available in our system yet, but check back soon! EDIT: You can now place this one on hold!

The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey – September 16

Sequel to The 5th Wave, the best dystopian novel I’ve read since The Hunger Games. Can’t wait to see where Yancey takes this series! Due for release September 16th. It’s not in the system yet, but you can read the first book while you wait! EDIT: It’s in the system now!

Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater – October 28 21

I LOVE this series and cannot wait to reread both The Raven Boys and The Dream Thieves in preparation for the third installment. It’s almost impossible to describe accurately, so you’ll just have to read it. EDIT: The NEW release date has been confirmed by the author herself! And you can now place an advance hold on this item.

The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan – October 7

The last in Rick Riordan’s Heroes of Olympus series, this one promises to be epic. If you haven’t picked up any of his other books, you have a lot to catch up on! Check out his Percy Jackson books first and then follow the characters into the Heroes series.

The Black Reckoning by John Stephens – August 5 EDIT – This date was according to an early press release from the publisher, but sources now say March 24, 2015 2nd Edit: April 7, 2015. A little longer to wait!

Back in 2012, I had just finished listening to my Harry Potter audiobooks for the fifth time (or possibly sixth? I’ve lost count)– and I was hungry for some more good listening. John Stephens’ series, The Books of Beginning, are narrated by the same actor as the HP audiobooks, Jim Dale. I was sold after the first chapter. The Black Reckoning is the last in the trilogy– check back soon to put it on hold. In the meantime, catch up and read the first two: in book form (1, 2) or on                                                audiobook (1, 2). Enjoy!

Did I miss any? Tell me what books you are excited about this year!

  1. Hi there, I haven’t read the Tapestry series but it looks fantastic– I’ll have to check it out! Looks like the 5th book, The Red Winter, is coming out on November 25th of this year.

If it’s helpful: New books are always released on Tuesdays, and goodreads usually has the correct release date listed.
