Better Know a Library Staffer: Colin

Here on the blog the other Matchmakers and I share what we are reading, watching, or listening to quite frequently, but we don’t often hear from our other staff members all over the library system. Now, we will be sharing interviews from other staff members so that you the reader can see what we’re reading/watching/listening to all over the Heights Library system!

This interview comes from our Web Developer Colin!

Read

What book are you reading at the moment? What are your thoughts on it?

The Great Book of Amber: The Complete Amber Chronicles by Roger Zelazny

I’ve read the entire ten book series once before, years ago. I haven’t been reading a lot lately, so I wanted to get into something comfortable and familiar. Zelazny is a wonderful story teller and his characters are old friends that I haven’t seen in years. The first book is a great introduction to Amber, one of the two “true” worlds, the royal intrigue that plagues Corwin and his siblings, and also how our own reality fits into it all.

What kind of books do you typically read?

Mostly I read science fiction and fantasy, humor and some non-fiction/biography. I love old fantasy and sci-fi authors like Fritz Leiber, Gene Wolfe, Harry Harrison, Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Piers Anthony and Christopher Stasheff. I’m also very into trivia and history, like the books of Bill Bryson. I’m a huge Clive Barker and Stephen King fan as well.

Have you ever pretended to have read a book? If so, which one and why?

Not that I remember! I’m sure this would apply to most of my book reports in grade school, though.

Watch

Which do you prefer: movies or television?

I like shorter shows and will watch a movie in more than one sitting if I’m unable to keep interested for the whole thing.

Have you ever binge-watched a show? If so, what was it?

All the time! I regularly have to watch seasons over to figure out where I was. I can get a little obsessive over a show that I really like, too. At different times, I’ve binge watched entire seasons of Haven, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Blacklist, The Venture Brothers, Eureka, Leverage and Burn Notice.

Listen

What kind of music do you enjoy?

I listen to electronic, rock, and hip-hop, mostly.

Have you found any new or new-to-you artists/bands lately?

I’m really enjoying Joywave, ミラクルミュージカル (Musical Miracle), which is a side project from a member of Tally Hall, Tame Impala, Miike Snow, Liima and MF DOOM.

Do you listen to different music based on the seasons?

I usually have a few albums that I listen to on rotation, and will sometimes pick one and listen to it over and over for days before switching to a new one.

Thanks Colin!
