Better Know a Library Staffer: Hannah

Here on the blog the other Matchmakers and I share what we are reading, watching, or listening to quite frequently, but we don’t often hear from our other staff members all over the library system. Now, we will be sharing interviews from other staff members so that you the reader can see what we’re reading/watching/listening to all over the Heights Library system!

This interview comes from one of our Youth Services Associates, Hannah!

Read

What book are you reading at the moment? What are your thoughts on it?

I just started reading Longbourn by Jo Baker.  It’s one of the many Pride & Prejudice companion novels, but this time the main characters are the Bennet family’s servants.  I’m on chapter 5 but it feels like I’m still on chapter 2, which is a bad sign. I’ll give it a few more chapters to hook me.

I also just finished the first trade of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina from Archie Comics. It’s a reboot of the Sabrina the Teenage Witch comic but it leans heavily into the horror genre. Basically, it’s everything I wanted to the tv series to be as a child.

What kind of books do you typically read?

Fantasy and graphic novels (mainly superheroes) are my favorites and I really gravitate towards fairy tale adaptations, like Cinder. Since I’m in Youth Services 90% of the books I read are children’s and YA titles.  However, I’m also a sucker for trashy romance novels (especially regency era) and the occasional celebrity memoir (I’m on the hold list for Amy Schumer’s new book [The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo]).

Have you ever pretended to have read a book? If so, which one and why?

Absolutely. If you hear me say, “Oh yeah, I’ve read it but it’s been awhile” odds are I’ve never picked it up. I can’t think of a specific title but they’re always adult books or classics that, based on my reading habits, I probably should read (No, I haven’t read American Gods by Neil Gaiman. Yes, I’m sure I’d like it). As I said above, I mainly read books for kids and I can only say, “Sorry, I haven’t read it” so many times before I start to feel insecure.

Watch

Which do you prefer: movies or television?

Movies. I have a LOT of opinions when it comes to film. The other librarians have actually begun sending patrons to me for recommendations. I take a lot of pride in being able to find the perfect movie for someone.

Have you ever binge-watched a show? If so, what was it?

The only show that I definitely binge-watch is RuPaul’s Drag Race. I’ve seen every season at least twice. It’s the best show on TV.

Listen

What kind of music do you enjoy?

My go-to genre is Musicals. I like indie rock, 70’s/80’s rock and pop, and current stuff too, but I make a point to stay up to date with musical theater.

Have you found any new or new-to-you artists/bands lately?

I just downloaded both the original cast recording of Waitress by Sara Bareilles and her solo version of the show. I wouldn’t call it my new favorite show but it’s very listenable.

Thanks Hannah!
