Better Know Your Library #73: Annual Heights Heritage Home Tour Booklets Now Available via Ohio Memory

This year marks the 41st Annual Heights Heritage Home and Garden Tour, which began all the way back in 1977.

Every year it is presented and organized by Heights Community Congress. Residents can now take a tour through past years of the Home and Garden Tour on Ohio Memory via the Heights Libraries website, where we have uploaded the past 40 years of booklets to add to our local history resources. Take a stroll down memory lane and learn about the historic homes in our unique and diverse city, and please also consider becoming part of our tapestry of community of stories through the library’s ongoing oral history project.

This project is called In My Day, and was inspired in part by the celebration of our library’s Centennial in 2016. It was also inspired by the book In My Day, published by Suzanne Ringler Jones and Heights Community Congress, which shared the stories of long-time residents of the Heights as part of the Heights Heritage Tour of 1978. We are hoping that the stories that we record will help bring history alive, and that this information will be useful for future generations to draw upon when learning about the history of the Heights.

If you have questions or would like to schedule an interview of roughly 20-30 minutes in duration, please email local history librarian Jessica Robinson at jrobinso@heightslibrary.org or call (216) 932-3600 Ext. 1248. These interviews will be recorded and shared using the SimplyTold app which was created by the Digital Mosaic, and will be attached to the library’s local history page. This app and project are both sponsored by a grant from the Ohio Arts Council.

We have also scheduled recording session dates and times, which you can sign up for by calling the regular library reference line at (216) 932-3600:
