What do you need to use Heights eMedia services?
You need a Heights library card, the 4-digit PIN associated with your card and a device with an internet connection.
If you own a Kindle Device, make sure you can access your Amazon account. You need to access your Amazon account to download eBooks.
Do I need to provide any other information to use an eMedia service?
Yes, all of the services will ask you for some basic information to create a free account. Creating accounts for the eMedia services will help you manage your checked out items, holds, returns, wish lists, etc.
How do I find or update my 4-digit PIN number?
If you need to find or change your 4-digit PIN number, ask staff at Heights Libraries for assistance.
What is an eMedia Card?
An eMedia Card gives you access to online-only materials such as movies, TV shows, music, eBooks, audiobooks, digital magazines, and research databases. The eMedia Card is a limited alternative to a traditional library card. It will provide you with a number, that gives you access to Heights Libraries online only resources.
You do NOT need an eMedia Card if you already have a Heights Libraries Card.
How do I access Acorn TV, IndieFlix, and the Stingray Qello services?
The services above are available through the RBdigital App. The RBdigital app can be downloaded for free through the app store on your device.
Do the Overdrive and Libby apps provide access to different services or content?
The apps look and function a bit differently, but both provide access to the same content. If you are new to eBooks, we recommend that you try using the Libby app.
Why do I have to place holds on eBooks and audiobooks?
The process is similar to using the traditional library catalog to access books, DVDs, and CDs, but the materials are available in electronic form. Like physical books, copies of electronic materials are purchased individually and are subject to copyright laws. Items that are “checked out” are not available to other customers until they are returned. For example, if CLEVNET owns two copies of an eBook, two customers may check out the book at any given time. Other customers can place holds and are notified when a copy is available.
Good news! Overdrive/Libby allows user to place a hold on up to 999 items and you will be notified by email when your material is available.
If I return a digital item late, will I be fined?
No. Items have a specific loan period. When the digital item is due, it is automatically returned to the eMedia Collection and is no longer available for use. This means no late fees!
Do I need to plug my device into a computer to download eBooks?
Generally, no. If you install an app on your device (see previous page), there is no need to physically connect equipment to a computer.
Please note, an app is not available for Kindle and Nook Reader devices.
Kindle Readers: eBooks are placed on these devices through a wireless syncing process.
Nook Readers: eBooks are placed on these devices by transferring content with a cord from a computer using Adobe Digital Editions.
For more assistance, please refer to the Overdrive device specific guides at the end of this document or contact the library.
