Know Your Library #61: Heights Library System Acquires Its First Man

Did you know that until 1964 there were no male librarians employed by the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library? Last year we celebrated our first Centennial since our founding in 1916, which means that we were open for 48 years with only female librarians. This accounts for nearly half of our history! Kudos to George Scherma for being the first when he was hired as the head librarian for the University Heights branch. This news article also lists an old home address, a tidbit of information that would likely never be included in a modern-day publication.
