Rhymes & Fingerplays:
I’m a Little Monkey (tune: I’m a Little Teapot)
I’m a little monkey in a tree
Swinging by my tail so merrily.
I can leap and fly from tree to tree
I have lots of fun, you see.
I’m a little monkey watch me play
Munching on bananas every day.
Lots of monkey friends to play with me
We have fun up in the trees.
Monkeys at the Zoo (tune: Farmer in the Dell)
The monkeys at the zoo, the monkeys at the zoo
Hi-ho they laugh and play, the monkeys at the zoo.
The monkeys run and hide, the monkeys run and hide
They like to play and run away, the monkeys at the zoo.
The monkeys love to swing, the monkeys love to swing
They love to sing as they swing, the monkeys at the zoo.
Three Little Monkeys
Three little monkeys sitting in a tree
Eating bananas, just like me.
One had a frown
One had a grin
One had banana all over his chin!
Monkey See, Monkey Do
Monkey see, monkey do
Monkey does the same as you.
When you clap, clap, clap your hands
The monkey clap, clap, claps his hands.
Monkey see, monkey do
Monkey does the same as you.
When you stamp, stamp, stamp your feet…
When you jump, jump, jump up high…
When you turn your self around…
Ten Little Monkeys (tune: Ten Little Indians)
One little, two little, three little monkeys
Four little, five little, six little monkeys
Seven little, eight little, nine little monkeys
Ten little monkey friends.
Spoken: And do you know what they did?
They got in their boats very carefully (Carefully climb into imaginary boats)
Be careful you don’t tip over.
They rowed and they rowed and they rowed to the shore (rowing motion)
They rowed and they rowed and they rowed to the shore
The rowed and they rowed and they rowed to the shore
Ten little monkey friends.
Spoken: It was so hot, and they were tired of sitting (Wipe brow. Balancing motion.)
So they all stood up very carefully.
They all stood up and the boat tipped over (Fall in water)
They all stood up and the boat tipped over
They all stood up and the boat tipped over
Ten little monkey friends.
Spoken: What are we going to do now?
They swam and they swam and they swam to the shore (Swimming motion)
They swam and they swam and they swam to the shore
They swam and they swam and they swam to the shore
Ten little monkey friends.
Spoken: Now what shall we do?
They were cold and wet, and they ran home to mother (Running motion)
They were cold and wet, and they ran home to mother
They were cold and wet, and they ran home to mother
Ten little monkey friends.
Spoken: And what do you suppose she did?
She fed them and kissed them and put them to bed (eating motion, kissing motion and sleeping motion)
She fed them and kissed them and put them to bed
She fed them and kissed them and put them to bed
Ten little monkey friends.
Art:
We made our own swinging monkeys, using this template and brown pipe cleaners. The kids colored and cut out the front and back of the monkey body template. The piper cleaners were sandwiched between the front and back of the monkey body. We glued the pipe cleaners in an “X” on the back of the body. We then glued the top of the body over the piper cleaners. Once the glue was dry we could bend and shape the pipe cleaners into arms and legs.
Our flexible, bendable monkey is ready to play!
