It’s time for a musical Spring fling

It seems as though winter is finally loosening its grip on northeast Ohio. Even though we saw a bit of snow this past week, the breeze has a warmth to it. Everywhere I turn I see crocuses and daffodils blooming, and buds on trees waiting to open. I love Spring for so many reasons, but one of the best is a return to cheerier/upbeat music. Music to accompany the sunshine and blue skies. Music to listen to while driving with the windows rolled down. Music to keep me going on that long run through the parks.

I tend to listen to quieter and more introspective music during the Winter months. After this excruciatingly long winter, I’m more than ready for a musical change. I’m ready for a quick beat to put a spring in my step and a smile on my face. Thankfully, there are lots of great new groups and albums emerging to fill this need and I have a feeling many of you will enjoy these tunes as well.

One of my newest finds is Bronze Radio Return’s Up, On & Over. The band is based out of Hartford, Connecticut and their indie/pop/rock tunes are full of spunk and energy. I dare you to watch this video of “Further On” and not get up and dance (or at least tap your toes).

A friend of mine recently recommended Air Traffic Controller. Their song “Hurry, Hurry” was immediately added to my newest running mix and when it comes on it typically gives a little extra boost to keep going.

I saw The Melodic at the Grog Shop about a month ago and they were a delightful surprise. They are a British folk-rock group and I think their star is on the rise. The band incorporates a melodihorn (or two!) in a number of their songs and its unique and lively sound is the perfect accompaniment to a weekend stroll through Shaker Lakes.

And if that’s not enough, here are a few more recommendations:

Until next time, happy listening!
