New Children’s Fiction: Rhyme Schemer

Hello, all! It’s your friendly neighborhood librarian here to tell you about a great new title that I finished recently.

Rhyme Schemer

Rhyme Schemer

Author: K.A. Holt

This is the story of Kevin. Kevin is the youngest child of five boys. Kevin is in a lot of pain. Kevin is a bully.

I really liked this book. It’s a novel written strictly in poems. Those kinds of books make me nervous, because they could go either way, but this one was done well. I like how the author gave the perspective of the bully, which is something we rarely get to see in books, TV, movies, etc.

This book is great for reluctant readers. It is short and not too heavy on words, but it has such great content and use of metaphor that it’d be perfect for the classroom. I plan to recommend it to those kids that come into the library that waited too long to write their book report (as usual) and need something they can finish quickly.

This title is great for children ages 11-14.

Stay tuned next month for my next children’s or teens’ new book review.
