Orange is the New Weeds

Writer and producer Jenji Kohan knows a thing or two about TV-land’s wonderful, complex women characters. Kohan was a producer for the first season of Gilmore Girls. She later went on to create, write and produce suburban mom turned pot dealer Nancy Botwin in Weeds. And now she has turned the memoir Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison (Piper Kerman) into a very successful TV show. Piper Chapman and the rest of the characters at Orange is the New Black‘s Litchfield Penitentiary have been renewed for a third season, a full month before the second season premieres on Netflix.

Get caught up! Season one comes to DVD May 14. Read the memoir that started it all. And check out those Modern Love columns that Piper’s fiancé wrote for the New York Times. You’ve got time!
