Summer Light

Looking for a little light reading that’s perfect for the beach, the porch, or under a tree? My guilty pleasures this season are Kevin Kwan’s, Crazy Rich Asians and  Rainbow Rowell’s, Landline.

CRA is like a smarter Gossip Girl for Adults and starring, well, crazy rich Asians! When American born Chinese Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend and fellow professor, Nicholas Young, she is surprised to find that Nicholas comes from an unimaginably rich family.  Can little R fit into this super exclusive world of  couture fashion, private jets, over-the-top weddings, entitlement and conniving relatives?  Will Nicholas’ and Rachel’s love survive the sabotage of  N’s meddling family?

Allow me to compare Landline to another hit television series:  imagine Thirty Rock’s Liz Lemon trying to keep her marriage together with the aid or hindrance of a magic phone.  Georgie’s devotion to her work as a television comedy writer and her close relationship with best friend, Seth are at odds with the happiness of her unsocial husband, Neal.  When she inadvertently places a phone call to the past, things become even more complicated.  Celebrated young adult author, Rowell serves up a sweet confection for adults with just the right amount of tartness.  While you’re waiting for a copy of Landline, read her YA novels including the prize winning Eleanor and Park, recommended by adult readers everywhere.

Happy reading. XOXO,

Blogger girl
