Heights Libraries is looking for two makers for our new Maker-in-Residence program! The goal of the Maker-in-Residence program is to showcase local makers and engage the community in a creative space where they can learn from and appreciate experts and participate in the creative process.

A maker can be anyone who creates using any medium. A songwriter, woodworker, jeweler, painter, crafter, animator… the possibilities are endless!

More specifically, we are looking for makers who:

  • Are passionate about sharing their creations with the community
  • Enjoy teaching others how to participate in their craft
  • Are 16+ years of age

The maker-in-resident will have dedicated space in the Heights Knowledge and Innovation Center (HKIC) on Lee Road and will be expected to share their work with the community through public programs and open studio hours.

The Maker-in-Residence Program is made possible with funding from the Cyrus Eaton Foundation.

Program Details:

The residency will last two months.

  • Summer Residency: June 1 – July 30
  • Fall Residency: September 1 – October 31

What’s in it for you?

  • Residents will receive a $1,000 stipend per month ($2,000 total),
  • access to the HKIC STEAM Lab,
  • a dedicated studio space,
  • supplies for public programs,
  • and a culminating opportunity to share your work with the community. *

Maker Responsibilities:

  • Host at least 2 hours of public studio time per week.
  • Offer 2 free workshops to the public each month (4 total).

Important Dates/Deadlines:

  • January 15, 2024: 2024 Maker-in-Residence application opens
  • March 1, 2024: 2024 Maker-in-Residence application closes
  • March 8, 2024: 2024 Maker-in-Residence selections announced
  • March 20, 2024: Signed Contracts Due

If you intend on selling your work at the Library, Heights Libraries policy states that 10% of the proceeds must be donated to the FRIENDS of Heights Libraries.

Family members of current employees or members of the Board of Trustees are not eligible to apply (Per HR Manual, Sec. 2.5 C. 1).
