Through the Gate… A Collection of Textile Collages
May 4 – May 30, 2022
About the Artist: Boni Suzanne Gelfand
Every piece of my art is unique and original! Using a pair of tweezers and long sticks, I gently maneuver each tiny piece of material onto my drawing. It is done like a mosaic. The colors and materials speak to me; and then I begin. Having degrees in Art, Interior Design, and a lifelong passion for fine fabrics, the idea of collage just came naturally.
The materials that I use were all discards from various upscale design showrooms (Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and Europe). Splendid and sumptuous, I use European silks, Thai silk, raw linen, passementerie, artisan-crafted wallcover, crushed glass, antique pearls, glass beads, vintage sequins, abalone, mother-of-pearl, etc.
For over forty years I have been a travel agent, and traveled extensively. Travel informs my work greatly. As seen here, my travels in the Middle East and India all play a role. Perhaps my art will entice you to travel to these lands.
I am a long time member of the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve. Find me on Facebook and LinkedIn.
