Bad Horse Reigns: The Scalped Series by Jason Aaron and R. M. Guera

Before this series I couldn’t imagine a noir story taking place in a sunny place like the Prairie Rose Indian Reservation. Together, Jason Aaron and R. M. Guera opened my eyes to the possibility that noir exists all around us.

If nothing else, Jason Aaron has proven that my definition of noir was too small.

Scalped . . . the crime noir tale that takes place on a modern day Native American Reservation.

And he’s made a declaration that his associates — even his lethal, loyal bodyguard Shunka — can’t abide: stop all drug dealing and gangbanging immediately or die at his hand.

But in the next county over, a similar change of heart has turned a crooked sheriff straight. Way he sees it, there’s no better place to start cleaning up than by taking down Red Cloud himself — even if that means disrupting the FBI’s best-laid plans to do the same.

Between them all stands agent Dash Bad Horse. Badly wounded, he’s lost his voice but found the secret he’s been looking for: the identity of the man who killed his mother, the crime that started it all. These men are about to go to war for the soul of the rez. Once they knuckle up, there’s no telling who’s going down.
