Happy New Year (somewhat belatedly, 2022 is already shaping up to be another strange year, right?) from the Matchmakers team!
I like to read “Best of” book lists in January. Some of them make me feel like I’ll never be book buddies with the listmakers. The New York Times and I, for example, don’t seem to read or enjoy very many of the same books. But this January, the NPR list and the Parade magazine list both had plenty of books on their “Best of 2021” lists that I read and enjoyed. NPR and Parade, you are my book people! As it happens, my favorite books are all fiction, because that’s what I read the most.
Without further ado, here is my Best Books of 2021 List, with a little help from NPR and Parade:
The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave
While We Were Dating by Jasmine Guillory
The Love Songs of W.E.B. Du Bois by Honoree Fanonne Jeffers
Yellow Wife by Sadeqa Johnson
The Plot by Jean Hanff Korelitz
A Marvellous Light by Freye Marske
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn
The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon
Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto
