I thought it might be fun to share some of recent books I’ve read. So I wandered over to my goodreads account and grabbed some of my quick, off the cuff reviews. There’s a little something for everyone and most of these should be available to check out today!

Greatest Love Story Ever Told by Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman – I highly recommend the audiobook of this one! It’s so delightful to hear the two of them sharing their lives together and apart with the listener. I wish they had a podcast. Fun highlights: Mullally is a huge reader and one of their favorite pastimes is to work on jigsaw puzzles together while listening to audiobooks. I want to be friends with them!

You Think It, I’ll Say It by Curtis Sittenfeld – I really enjoyed this collection so much. I think it takes a great deal of talent to write short stories and these are done so well. I wanted to know more about many of the characters but at the same time I feel like they each went through an often profound journey in just a few pages. Highly recommend this one!

The Last Romantics by Tara Conklin – A good family saga that spans the decades is like comfort food to me! This one does not disappoint. The Skinner family is not perfect by any means, but they love each other intensely and while they lose their way from time to time. They eventually come back together and support each other when they need it most. It is a love story in all sorts of different ways but at its core is familial love.

Girls at 17 Swann Street by Yara Zgheib – I found this to be quite an engrossing read. It’s a love story too, but of another sort. It’s about learning to love oneself again. It’s about acceptance – of one’s own body, of the support and love others are trying to give, of the fact that there is a problem. Anna’s story is an important one especially in today’s culture and it’s one that should be read and discussed. These body image issues need to be talked about for the sake of everyone.

The One by John Marrs – And now for something completely different, a thriller with a fresh sci-fi twist. In an era when online dating has become a norm, this story takes it a step further. Now for just $10 you can find out your DNA matched soulmate. This new phenomenon has led to all sorts of new beginnings both good and bad. I enjoyed the moral and ethical ambiguity that arises as these different characters have to decide what to do with this newfound information. Then Marrs throws a serial killer into the mix, and this one kept me turning the pages to the very end.
