Listening to fun new music during the long sunshine-filled summer days is one of my favorite pastimes. Some friends and I are going to a music festival in a couple of weeks and I am so excited to be immersed in great music and the outdoors (fingers crossed that the Cleveland weather cooperates)!

While I have lots of old favorites that I will spend time with this summer, I always love discovering new music to build memories upon. Brandi Carlile’s latest album might also be her best. She’s a little bit country and a little bit rock’n’roll and the twang in her voice just gets me. Her lyrics are full of soul and heart, and I can’t wait to see her close out Laurelive in June. Lucy Dacus is another musician whose unique voice sucks me in so easily. Her voice is full of grit and has a great rocky edge to it. She too is coming to Cleveland soon, so check out her albums and then get yourself to her show.

Two surprises of 2018 would definitely be Rainbow Kitten Surprise and Sunflower Bean. Both have come out of nowhere and fans just can’t stop listening to their tunes. L.A. Salami (a British singer-songwriter) has been around for a number of years but I only stumbled across him recently and I recommend that you do the same.

Here’s my list. You’re only job (if you choose to accept it) is to give some of them a try and have a fabulous summer!

Alice Merton – Alice Merton EP

Bishop Briggs – Church of Scars

Brandi Carlile – By the Way I Forgive You

Chvrches – Love Is Dead

Courtney Barnett – Tell Me How You Really Feel

The Decemberists – I’ll Be Your Girl

Florence + the Machine – High As Hope

Janelle Monae – Dirty Computer

L.A. Salami – City of Bootmakers

Lord Huron – Vide Noir

Lucy Dacus – Historian

MGMT – Little Dark Age

Rainbow Kitten Surprise – How To: Friend, Love, Freefall

Ray LaMontagne – Part of the Light

Sunflower Bean – Twentytwo in Blue

Until next time, happy listening!
