Class 2.02: Computer Hardware

A computer’s hardware is all the parts of the computer that take up physical space. These parts include:

All of these computer components together are referred to cumulatively as a desktop system.

Laptops are small, compact computers that can easily be carried from place to place. Laptops combine the computer, monitor, and keyboard into a single unit, and they usually have a touchpad instead of a regular mouse. Moving a finger over the touchpad controls the cursor just like moving a mouse over a desk.

Smartphones are mobile phones that function as computers. They have functions other than just making phone calls, like Internet connectivity, games and applications, and serve as mini computers.

Tablets are mobile computers that are larger than smartphones but smaller than laptops, they function similarly to smartphones. Tablets are flat and typically operate with a touch screen instead of a keyboard and mouse.
