Class 5.06: Mobile Devices

With a smartphone, you can check email, browse the web, or locate directions from anywhere!

Smartphones are able to access the Internet using the same cell phone towers that allow you to make phone calls and send text messages.

If you have a smartphone, you likely pay for data. Data plans generally have limits. If you go over your data limit, your access to the Internet may be slowed or cut off or you may be charged extra. Data plan totals are typically listed in gigabytes (GB).

Tablets typically rely on a Wi-Fi connection. Many coffee shops, restaurants, libraries, campuses, and downtown areas offer free Wi-Fi. Using Wi-Fi at home or at these businesses and other locations helps you save money and avoid going over your data plan.

A hotspot is a small device you can use to connect a wireless enabled device, such as a laptop or tablet, to the internet by connected to cell phone towers. Hotspots are typically available through your cell phone provider for an additional fee. Some smartphones are able to be used as hotspots as well.

Heights Libraries has hotspots available for reserve. For more information, click here.
