The Matchmakers welcome today’s guest blogger, librarian Amy Marshalek! Amy writes:
If you haven’t heard of Caitlin Moran before, now is the time to get up to speed. Tomorrow (5/8/20), the film How to Build a Girl, based on Moran’s 2014 book, will be released to video on demand (check the film’s official site for more details. Not only does it rate 81% on Rotten Tomatoes, it stars Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart, Lady Bird) as Johanna Morrigan, a fictional version of Moran and her start as a rock journalist at age 16.
To get started on your Moran journey, you have some options. Her hilarious fiction titles, How to Build a Girl and the follow up, How to Be Famous (2018), are both available as ebooks. See audiobook links below!
If you want the factual take on Moran’s life, start with her memoir How to Be a Woman (2011). And once you get hooked by her witty writing and laugh out loud humor, go on to more of her essays and musings in Moranthology and and Moranifesto (2016).
But wait there’s more! Through Acorn TV (subscribe for free through the library website!) watch 2 seasons of Raised by Wolves. This award-winning British comedy was created by Moran and co-written with her sister. It’s a loose adaptation of their childhood growing up socially isolated and homeschooled. And it’s a riot.
Right, now that should get you sorted!
