At the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library, we are dedicated to cultivating a workplace that celebrates diversity and inclusion, where every individual is valued and respected. As part of this commitment, we are conducting a voluntary survey to gain insights into the demographics of our workforce. Your anonymous responses will assist us in enhancing our policies and practices to uphold equitable support for all employees. Participation in this survey is optional, and all information provided will be treated confidentially.
To clarify, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has mandated reporting requirements for private employers, federal contractors, and state and local governments since the mid-1960s. The Library’s Voluntary Demographic Survey aligns with the categories defined by the EEOC, and the racial and ethnic categories used in the survey follow the EEOC’s definitions.
Regarding the Gender question, the EEOC currently provides only binary options. However, the EEOC does allow employers to optionally report data on “nonbinary” employees. The term “nonbinary” encompasses individuals who do not exclusively identify as either male or female. This can include identities such as being both male and female, somewhere in between, or outside of the male-female binary entirely, including agender, bigender, genderqueer, or gender-fluid identities.
Your responses will be used exclusively for EEOC reporting and strategic planning aimed at advancing diversity, equity and inclusion within our organization.
Thank you for your participation.
