A Day and Night in the Desert, by Caroline Arnold, is a fun book with cut paper illustrations and a descriptive narrative describing a 24-hour period in the Sonoran Desert, which is in Arizona, California, and Mexico. Each page covers a three-hour period and shows different local animals and a short factoid. At the end there are the following sections: What Is a Desert?, Where Can You Find Deserts?, Fun Facts, Critical Thinking Using the Common Core, Read More, Internet Sites, a glossary, and an index.
This would be a great book for younger readers getting ready for a trip to a desert area. It’s a good read aloud book that can get a reader interested in learning more. Arnold also has books in this series on the forest, prairie, and rain forest.
