Adult Summer Reading Program: 5-Star Reviews

The Matchmakers team welcomes our Adult Summer Reading Coordinator, Jen, as our guest blogger! Jen writes:

As part of our Adult Summer Reading Program, your neighbors have been earning raffle entries for reading books and attending programs, plus extra entries for submitting reviews of the books they read. It’s been delightful and insightful (and sometimes hilarious!) to find out what people really think about the stories they checked out. Now, we want to share some of their rave reviews with you!

If you’re looking for your next great read, consider these 5-star recommendations from our Heights Libraries Summer Readers!

Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree
R.M. says, “A Dungeons & Dragons inspired story about changing paths and finding community. It’s joyful, fairly low conflict, and has plenty of details about delicious baked goods.”

A Mutual Friend by Carter Bays
E.C.K. says, “I laughed, I cried. I knew it would all come together but had no idea how! I was tickled by every connection that happened in a way I couldn’t predict. His insights and writing are beautiful, delicious and perfect. It was magical through the end.”

Long Black Veil by Jennifer Finney Boylan
G.S. says, “It was a great suspenseful mystery.  I especially liked it because it has a transgender character and was written by a transgender author so I feel as though it has to be an accurate depiction of how it feels to be transgender, something I really don’t know much about but would like to understand better … I recommend it to everyone who likes a good mystery.”

The Other Man by Farhad Dadyburjor
E.E. says, “The world needs more honest and modern queer love stories that aren’t set in London, and this one does a wonderful job. A cute quick beach read with a happy  ending.”

I Can’t Make this Up by Kevin Hart
T.P. says, “He’s hilarious. This book is comical and so real all at once. Kevin’s story is one that’s easy to connect to. He’s real and raw in this book and it’s easy to get lost in its pages. It’s amazing to read Kevin’s background yet know his ‘now’.”

Bad Monkey by Carl Hiaasen
G.T. says, “Interesting crime/comic novel set in the Florida Keys and the Bahamas. Hiaasen’s usual mix of quirky characters and crazy storyline that just seems to work.”

Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel
D.D. says, “A beautiful, non-linear narrative that looks at how people across time, and even space, are indelibly intertwined.”

Our Adult Summer Reading Program runs until August 11th, so it’s not too late to participate and submit a review of your own! We want to hear from you, whether you’re praising a book or panning it.

The more you read (and write), the more chances you have to win! Good luck, and happy reading!
