Best Fiction of 2022

December is the month to look back at the year as it’s drawing to a close. I’m thinking about my favorite fiction from this past year. These are books I read in 2022… not all of them were published in 2022, but these are all my faves, old and new, from the year.

What kind of novels are my faves? I like character-driven novels with dialogue that rings true and a thoughtful, but not too heavy, storyline. This year I have embraced what I think of as slice-of-life fiction, but that’s not all you’ll see on this list!

If you like these kinds of books, curl up for the winter with one of these immersive novels:

Horse by Geraldine Brooks

Activities of Daily Living by Lisa Hsiao Chen

This is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

Alias Emma by Ava Glass

The Boys by Katie Hafner

Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall

Tell Me an Ending by Jo Harkin

Unlikely Animals by Annie Hartnett

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver

The Latecomer by Jean Hanff Korelitz

The Foundling by Ann Leary

Nora Goes Off Script by Annabel Monaghan

The Change by Kirsten Miller

Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng

The No-Show by Beth O’Leary

The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn

Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn

All Adults Here by Emma Straub

The Chosen and the Beautiful by Nghi Vo

Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson

Happy Reading! See you all in 2023!
