Better Know a Library Staffer: Sara

Here on the blog the other Matchmakers and I share what we are reading, watching, or listening to quite frequently, but we don’t often hear from our other staff members all over the library system. Now, we will be sharing interviews from other staff members so that you the reader can see what we’re reading/watching/listening to all over the Heights Library system!

This interview comes from University Heights Branch Manager Sara!

Read

What book are you reading at the moment? What are your thoughts on it?

I just started reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King. I watched the Hulu miniseries based on the book a few months ago and really enjoyed it. I decided now was a good time to read the book: it’s 849 pages and I’m not doing much else with my broken foot! I’m only a few chapters in, but so far, it’s holding my attention. I normally don’t watch the movie/series based on a book before reading the book, so I’ll be interested to see how the miniseries diverged from the book.

What kind of books do you typically read?

I typically read general fiction and mystery. I vacillate between literary fiction and trashy romance/other nonsense. Sometimes I like to think when I read, and other times I just want to read brain candy!

Have you ever pretended to have read a book? If so, which one and why?

Oh gosh, all the time! Since I order Large Print for the system, I read a lot of summaries and reviews about titles, which helps a lot when people are looking for book recommendations. Often, I’ll just go stare at the shelves until a book jumps out at me. If you see me reading the inside flap of a book before I hand it to you, you know I haven’t read the book, but I’ve at least heard of it and thought it sounded interesting.

Watch

Which do you prefer: movies or television?

I’ve been watching a lot of TV lately. Mr. Robot and Halt and Catch Fire are at the top of my watch-list right now. They both focus on technology, but Mr. Robot is much darker and dystopian, while Halt and Catch Fire has a lot more humorous moments infused amidst the drama.

Have you ever binge-watched a show? If so, what was it?

Lots, but my most recent binge was Crazy Ex-Girlfriend on Netflix. It was hilarious and so not a show I would usually watch. It’s a comedy, but interspersed with ridiculous song and dance numbers (and I’m not a musical person). I really enjoyed the characters and it was just the right amount of cheesiness without being super of the top.

Listen

What kind of music do you enjoy?

I’ll always be a huge fan of pop-punk music. I went to high school and college during the late 90s/early 2000s, and most of my music tastes have pretty much stayed the same since then. I also like indie rock and alt-country.

Have you found any new or new-to-you artists/bands lately?

As long as I’m able, I plan to check out the NeoCycle Music Fest on September 10 (since I know I won’t be able to do the Night Ride that night because of my injury), and Wild Child was recently announced as the headliner. They remind me a lot of my favorite local band, Seafair. Seafair sadly broke up recently and I was unable to make it to their final show (sad face).
