The take-away is not how many graphic novels I’ve read but how many I was able to obtain through my branch library.
I work as a librarian associate at the Noble Neighborhood Library. Late last year and continuing into this year, I decided to read graphic novels and collections as voraciously as I could.
As I don’t have the kind of money it takes to purchase my own, I’ve relied on my branch library (Noble Library), my library system (The Heights Library System) and the consortium we are members of (CLEVNET), to supply my comic addiction.
As I read, I added the books to a Riffle book list . . which became two book lists when the first one grew too big . . . which is now three book lists.
The amazing thing I’d like you to note — especially if you’re a rabid comic book fan — is that I got each book through my library. Some were books Noble owned while most were elsewhere in CLEVNET. Only one book (The Order: California Dreaming) had to be ordered through a nation-wide Interlibrary Loan — which I did at Noble Library.
All of this — and the year is only two-thirds over. The take-away is not how many graphic novels I’ve read but how many I was able to obtain through my branch library.
