October is Halloween Horror month and today we take a look at the Pine Deep Trilogy.
The first book, Ghost Road Blues starts on September 30 and ends October 1. Dead Man’s Song picks up on October 2 and runs through October 12. Bad Moon Rising starts on October 13 and flies through to the end of Halloween.
Together they read like one book, each one flowing into the other with only a hiccup in books two and three when Maberry recaps the events in the previous books.
Thirty years ago Pine Deep, Pennsylvania suffered a severe blight that killed livestock, crops and even killed the young and elderly who accidently ate infected food. In that bleak year, a killer stalked the citizens of Pine Deep, even killing and ravaging children, until the day he was put down and buried in a swamp.
Since then, Pine Deep has become known as the most haunted town in America. Although crops are still king, the town does a booming industry each October in Halloween attractions, parades, festivals, candy and similar themed events. It has become a tourist destination.
Unfortunately, this year the crop-destroying blight has returned. To make matters worse, three criminal arrive, fleeing Philadelphia with drugs and money, led by the murderous Karl Ruger. But worse than that, the killer from thirty years ago is about to rise out of its bog — and it will no longer be anything close to human.
In 2011, Blackstone Audio released the audio version, expertly read by Tom Weiner. The audio books are available for download from the CLEVNET eMedia Collection.
