Meet Tech Trainer Kate

This month’s blog we would like to introduce you to our newest Tech Trainer Kate.  We sat down with Kate and asked her a few questions about herself.

Tells us a little about yourself.

I just obtained a BFA in film production from Cleveland State University. While in school I worked as an IT Assistant for my school, which really allowed me to delve into the depths of troubleshooting all sorts of computers, equipment, software, and help different kinds of people from beginners to professionals.  I was also the film club president for the 2019/2020 school year, attended a myriad of different seminars and workshops for leadership, naturalism, and Cleveland history, and was able to volunteer my time as a videographer and academic for the Odyssey Summer Camp, freshman orientation classes, and tutoring.

What attracted you to the position of Tech Trainer?

I love problem solving. I am also passionate about education and communal growth. I find this position incredibly rewarding and feel like it is a great opportunity to become an asset to the community.

What area of expertise will be your focus as a Tech Trainer?

General Media – I am looking for ways to build onto our programming and technological resources for expansive access to the creation and distribution of media (film, art, graphics, music, live production, etc.).

As a follow up, how much experience do you have in this area?

As I mentioned my BFA is in film production, which has blessed me with a diverse set of skills across all types of media creation. I also have a history in art and music, which has led me to this point.

What do you like about working at Heights Libraries?

I love that I am encouraged to learn – to help others as well as myself.

And finally, what is the one new thing you hope to accomplish as a Tech Trainer?

This year I am working on developing programming on documentary filmmaking with the hope that we can, in the future, take in pitches and production proposals to help the community create its own documentary.

Thank you Kate, for talking to us and helping us get to know you better and welcome to the team here at Heights Libraries.
