Beginning in September, Heights Libraries will be offering a new certificate program. Students will use a “passport” or booklet to track their computer class attendance. Completing a series in the booklet results in an awesome certificate to put on the fridge!
There are two booklet options. Want to learn the basics of how to use computers? The Core Competencies booklet includes the Computer Basics and Windows Basics series. These courses discuss many of the basic skills needed in our computerized world.
Do you use Microsoft Office at work? Want to learn more about Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher? Grab the Office Competencies booklet and learn how to make your documents, presentations and spreadsheets shine. Booklets aren’t required to attend classes, but it’s a fun way to keep track of your attendance and celebrate what you’ve learned.
After each class, make sure to have the instructor stamp your booklet. If you miss a class, don’t worry! You have up to two quarters (that’s 6 months!) to complete the series. Once you’ve completed all the courses in a series, show your booklet to the HKIC computer lab staff and get your certificate.
Remember, Cleveland Heights – University Heights Public Library computer classes are full of information, but aren’t accredited by any outside organization, software product or company.

- Windows Basics begins Thursday, September 1 at 7 pm
- Computer Basics begins Tuesday, September 6 at 11 am
If you are interested in Office Competencies:
- Excel begins Tuesday, September 6 at 7 pm
- Word begins Wednesday, September 7 at 7 pm
- PowerPoint begins Tuesday, October 25 at 7 pm
- Publisher begins Wednesday, November 2 at 7 pm
