Class 3.06: File Explorer

File Explorer is used to open and organize folders and files on your computer.

To open File Explorer:

  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Click on the Documents icon.

Folders are listed first in File Explorer. To open a folder, double-click on its icon or name, depending on the view. To open a file, double-click on the file’s icon or name (depending on the view). The default application will open and display the file.
To create a new folder:
  1. Right-click in a blank space in the File Explorer window or on the Desktop. A context menu opens.
  2. Click on New.
  3. Click on Folder.
  4. A new untitled folder will appear in the window.

 

OR

  1. Click New Folder in the ribbon.
  2. A new untitled folder will appear in the window.
To rename a file or folder:
  1. Right-click on the folder or file. A context menu opens.
  2. Click on Rename.

 

OR

  1. Click once on the folder or file to select it.
  2. Wait one second, then click the folder again. This is not the same as double-clicking.
