Class 5.04: Speed and File Size

Internet speed is measured in megabits per second (mbps). The higher the number, the faster the speed.

The average speed or bandwidth for an internet connection in the U.S. is 42.86 mbps. This is a excellent speed for web browsing and even high quality video streaming.

If your household uses multiple internet-connected devices – computers, smartphones, tablets, etc. – this speed is divided between these devices. If several family members are online at a time or if you frequently download large files, you may want to consider a faster internet connection.
